Martin Boutet

Martin Boutet arrived in Québec in 1640 and built the French side of the Auberge Place d’Armes. Although he was a soldier, Mr. Boutet was the first professor with the Jesuits and the first master-chanter of the colony. He taught mathematics and navigation.
